Brampton is a small town with a population of 4000 and was formed in a hollow by a glacial action during the ice age. When you go into the town centre you will see Moot Hall which dates back to 1817 which is now the Tourist Information Centre. Another historic building in the town is St Martin’s Church designed by Philip Webb and on the edge of the town is The Old Parish Church.
Just outside the town is Talkin Tarn Country Park which has a 65 acre lake set in 120 acres of woodland making it ideal for walking. There is also the RSPB nature reserve and Gelt Woods which are well worth a visit if you enjoy walking.
Probably the biggest attractions in the area is Hadrian’s Wall which stretched from almost to Newcastle covering 73 miles. The wall dates back to 120’s AD and crosses three rivers.
