The Cross Keys is a 400-year-old National Trust Temperance Inn situated at the base of Cautley Spout, in the heart of the Howgills, Sedbergh, Cumbria.

We have a small farmhouse style restaurant where we serve daytime meals, snacks and evening meals. Winter months- October-March. – Wednesday to Sunday inclusive from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm Summer months – April -September – Wednesday to Sunday inclusive from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. We also open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night to non-residents for evening meals from 6.30 pm but booking is essential.

We have two comfortable en suite rooms where we offer bed & breakfast. One large family room with a double bed and bed settee for smaller members of the family. Plus there is a neat twin-bedded room. Between the two rooms is an old oak-panelled room now used as a library and sitting room for guests along with cupboards full of games to keep the children occupied.

The dining room has wooden floors and seats 38 maximum, there is also a glassed-in veranda where the two tables have spectacular views of Cautley Spout. A large Settle in the dining room and a grandfather clock in the parlour were given to the National Trust by a Kirkby Stephen family to remain in a Trust property close to their home.

There is plenty to see and do in the area including visiting Cautley Spout – a waterfall which drops in several steep sections about 700ft high in total, though the highest single leap is about 90ft. The falls drop into Cautley Holme Beck, which then joins the River Rawthey. The market town of Sedbergh is only 4 miles from us.
