Garragh Mhor is a picture postcard cottage offering comfortable bed and breakfast accommodation.

LOCATION

It is located close to the village of Ellenabeich and has superb views across the old quarry pool to the village and seascape beyond. Backed by the cliffs of Dunmore Hill, we get regular visits from Eagles, Buzzards and even Peregrine Falcons. The view from the top has to be one of the most spectacular in western Scotland; an enjoyable 20 – 30 minutes’ walk to the top.

Back in the village a short walk one way gives stunning views of Mull, Inish and the Garvellach islands yet 5 minutes in the opposite direction takes you to the Oyster Bar and Restaurant, The Village has gift shop and folk museum and is home to Seafari Adventures which takes parties out into the surrounding firth to see the beautiful wildlife; minke whales, porpoise, dolphins, deer, wild boar, eagles, otters. You can also visit “The HAG” – 3rd largest whirlpool in the world located just off our shore between Jura and Scarba in the Gulf of Coryvreckan.

Oban, “Gateway to the Isles”, is just 15 miles away to the north through stunning countryside. A bustling seaside town with plenty of eateries, bars and shops.

ACCOMODATION

Garragh Mhor has 4 comfy en suite bedrooms which all include a TV, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and ironing facilities. Gardens surround the house – to the front around the quarry pool and a walled garden to the rear which you are welcome to use. Various ‘sit-ooties’ have been installed to provide convenient and secluded places to take in the scene.

There is a sun-porch too with library of local information and views of the walled garden – a ‘sit-innie’ to use as a sitting room if you wish.

BREAKFAST

This is a vegetarian B&B. There are many choices on the menu and non-vegetarians have reviewed the breakfasts very favourably. Trip advisor awarded Garragh Mhor a 5 Star – Certificate of Excellence in 2019

EVENING MEALS

Easdale is fast becoming a ‘food-lover’s-location’. Offerings are many and varied from The Oyster Bar, (Ellenabeich 5 minutes’ walk from the house); The Puffer Bar Restaurant and Tearoom (Easdale Island); The Tigh An Truish (at the Bridge over the Atlantic) is you wish to eat close to home.

Booking for food is highly recommended, especially in the summer months of Jun – Sep. Feel free to call Garragh Mhor and speak to Jan – she can assist with bookings.

WHAT TO DO

Garragh Mhor offers a ‘remote-Island-feel’ without the necessity to book a ferry; it is accessed from the mainland via the iconic “Bridge over the Atlantic” and is conveniently located to access both the beautiful Kintyre Peninsula and ferries to the Inner and outer Hebridean islands from Oban.

This is an ideal location from which to explore this part of the stunning West Coast – boasting some the most significant ancient Scottish history; areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a plentiful offering of outdoor activities.

This is a place of tranquillity and beauty – it attracts artists, poets, photographers, walkers, sailors, sea-kayakers, birdwatchers and people who just want to get-away from it all and take in the fresh air and peace.

It is also host to the increasingly popular “World Stone Skimming Championships” hosted on Easdale Island. A very busy celebratory weekend with parties and music – book early is you wish to attend. Last weekend in September.
