Situated in the heart of the Peak District, The Old Station House is one of the closest B&Bs to Chatsworth House – and probably the most reasonably priced.

With just three en-suite guest bedrooms, plenty of off-road parking and a pub just around the corner we are the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area, which also includes historic Haddon Hall and the beautiful market town of Bakewell. Beautiful footpath walks lead to these and other destinations in the Peak District National Park from the village.

Our beautiful house was originally designed in 1850 by Joseph Paxton, the year before he built the famous Crystal Palace for the Great Exhibition in London. Today we have two double rooms and one twin with has extra long (6′ 6″) beds that can be converted into a superking for multiple night stays. All three rooms at the B&B have a full en suite shower room, TV/DVD player and excellent Wi-Fi internet access as well as coffee and tea making facilities. There is also a hairdryer and radio alarm clock in each room for guests’ convenience as well as an information pack which contains details on the local attractions, restaurants and popular walks.

Much of the original village of Rowsley dates from the seventeenth century and is still part of the Haddon Estate, with historic Haddon Hall just two miles away. Rowsley is also home to Caudwell’s Mill, a Grade II listed historic flour mill, powered by water from the river Wye which is now a working museum. The site also has a cafe and a craft centre with workshops including stained glass makers, a stonemason, a carpenter and a blacksmith. Peak Village, a factory outlet shopping centre, is also in Rowsley along with two art galleries; Gallery Top opposite The Old Station House and Derwent Wye Fine Art next to Caudwell’s Mill.

Rowsley’s pub, the Grouse and Claret, is just down the road from The Old Station House and has an extensive menu. The East Lodge Country House Hotel, a popular wedding venue, is around the corner from the house and its award winning restaurant is open to non residents, as is the restaurant and bar at the Peacock Hotel on the river. Just outside the village is Rowsley South station, home to the Peak Railway Society which runs steam heritage passenger trains between Matlock Riverside and Rowsley South.
